FAQ

Questions about therapy?

Here are some of the common questions that people may ask when they are considering therapy. If you don’t see what you need, reach out for more information.

What is online psychotherapy?

Online psychotherapy offers a convenient way to receive therapeutic support from the comfort of your home. I use evidence-based techniques to help people address mental health concerns such as trauma, relational abuse, and how to process truama.

How do I know therapy is for me?

Therapy can help if you’re feeling overwhelmed, struggling with relationships, or managing stress. It’s not just for major issues – many seek therapy for personal growth, life changes, or enhancing well-being. Consider it a tool for self-care and understanding, whether facing specific challenges or aiming for a more fulfilling life.

How long does a session last?

Sessions typically last 50 minutes. This allows ample time to explore your concerns and work towards personal growth. Longer sessions can be arranged if needed.

What issues do I specialise in?

I specialise in relational abuse, most notably partner on partner abuse and difficulties within the mother daughter dynamic.

I have over 10 years worth of experience of working with clients who are dealing with the impact of domestically abusive relationships (gained working in a women’s health centre).

It was during this time I became interested in the mother daughter dynamic and how many woman bring into therapy their difficulties within this relationship. I work with women to help them understand the dynamics at play and how to figure out their own sense of self and process any residual trauma that may have arisen in these relationships.

What is Psychotherapy, how does it differ from counselling, and will it help me?

Psychotherapy is a gentle, collaborative journey. As your therapist, I provide a safe, supportive space to explore your thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. Counselling and psychotherapy are both excellent ways to support your mental health, however they do differ in their approach. Counselling addresses a specific immediate issue and is often short term, solution=focused. Whereas Psychotherapy is a deeper more comprehensive process, in which life patterns and past experiences are explored, addressing underlying causes to behaviours in the here and now, often leading to profound, long lasting changes.

What can I expect in my first session?

Our first session is about getting to know each other. I’ll ask about your reasons for seeking therapy, your history, and your goals. It’s also an opportunity for you to ask questions and see if you feel comfortable working with me.

How many sessions are recommended?

The number of sessions needed varies for each individual, as everyone’s journey is unique. While some clients find short-term counselling of 6-12 sessions beneficial for specific issues, others may benefit from longer-term psychotherapy to explore deeper patterns or complex concerns. We’ll work together to assess your needs and goals, regularly reviewing progress to determine the most appropriate duration for your personal growth and well-being. This is based on weekly sessions, please note fortnightly sessions are not currently offered.

How long until I see results?

The timeline for seeing results varies greatly depending on your specific situation, goals, and the work we do together. Some people notice changes within a few sessions, while others find that longer-term work leads to more profound transformations.
